Learn to Take Control of
Credit Card Debt!

Just the very mention of credit card debt makes many people cringe.  The words produce a rather ominous sound rolling off the lips.

It doesn't really matter where you live.  The word "debt" never feels good, except maybe to a banker.  Since most people don't get to enjoy the benefits of consumer debt then maybe it needs to stop.

Ask yourself, "Am I enjoying all this debt?"  Not likely.

The problem boils down to convenience.  It's so much easier to carry around a credit card than it is to carry a big wad of cash.  In many ways it's probably much safer as well.

You've probably never heard of anyone that was in "credit cash debt".  That's because they always pay with cash.  There is no credit and there is no debt.

Paying with cash is one simple way to eliminate credit card debt.  A little critical thinking will produce some other options as well.

Ways to Eliminate Credit Card Debt

  • Set up, and live on, a realistic budget:
  • Without a budget you will remain in debt no matter how hard you try to change.  A budget will help you end bad habits that led to your credit card debt problem.  If you are serious about ending your debt nightmare then get serious and create a budgetTODAY

  • Pay with cash:
  • Yes, paying with cash is always the best option.  Start carrying your checkbook instead of a credit card.  When you see your money actually leaving your bank account you will automatically spend less.

  • Use a debit card when necessary:
  • A debit card is no different than writing a check or paying with cash in many ways.  They do still look and feel like a credit card so it is somewhat easier to spend more money than you have budgeted.  Use debit cards only when necessary, such as for online purchases and you'll find yourself spending less money.

  • Purchase a pre paid credit card:
  • A prepaid credit card is a nice option since they have a definite limit.  Since you are in charge of your own spending limits they provide the convenience of credit cards without the possibility of over spending.  Yes, you can load them with more than you can afford so be careful when using pre paid credit cards if self control is an issue.  Know your limits.

  • Destroy existing credit cards:
  • The best way to avoid credit card debt is to get rid of your credit cards.  Anything that requires a credit card can usually be handled with a debit card or a pre paid credit card.  You may want to keep a single card for emergencies but it needs to only be used when there are no other options.

  • Pay off accounts quickly:
  • For existing credit card debt you have to be committed to paying off the balance as quickly as possible.  Minimum payments are financial suicide.  Pay the card with the highest interest rate first and then roll that payment onto the next card until you are debt free.

  • Get professional help:
  • When your credit card obligations are more than you can handle it may be time to get help from a reputable consumer credit counseling service.  Yes, there will be a fee but they can often help reduce interest and debt enough to make it well worth your while.

Getting into debt was pretty easy.  Eliminating your credit card debt will take some hard work.  Take control of all of your debt issues and you will get out of debt.  Ignore your debt issues and you will remain a slave to your debt.

Here's the bottom line:

Do whatever it takes to stop spending money you don't have!
