Spend less than you earn

by Sam
(New York)

My family has struggled with debt for 25 years and growing. We have the very bad habit of approaching life with the attitude of "you want it, go ahead and buy it". What a stupid thing to do!

We have lots of great stuff but those things come with bills we simply can't afford. We owe more than we ever could have imagined and with the economy going down the toilet things don't look too promising.

The bottom line is that we have learned that you can't go through life buying everything you want on credit. Eventually it will catch up with you and then all you have is a mess and a lot of stress.

From today and beyond we are committed to only spending what we have actually earned, not what we can borrow. That's good advice for everyone and it will force us to learn to save for what we want instead of buy now, pay later. Maybe we'll even appreciate what we have a little bit more.

I hope all your readers will try and do the same in their lives. Being in debt sucks!
